Meenakshi Amman is a temple located in the city of Madurai and it is the real marvel of India . Meenakshi temple covers area of 14 acres, and has 4,500 pillars and 14 towers it’s massive. It is the most important and impressive temple of South India and infact of India.

Meenakshi is a Hindu goddess and tutelary deity of Madurai who is considered an avatar of the Goddess Parvati. She is the divine consort of Sundareswarar, a form of Shiva.

2)Hall of Thousand Pillars

The Hall of Thousand Pillars, or Aayiram Kaal Mandapam is a wonderful piece of architecture and is believed to be built out of a single rock. There are many ancient paintings inside the museum of this temple. This is the only part of the temple that is open to visitors and devotees of all beliefs. This is the largest hall in the temple, and has huge statues of Nataraja and Sivakami in the centre of the hall.

3)Periodic Restoration

The Meenakshi temple goes through a periodic restoration every 12 years. This restoration process is carried out as a ritual, during which the sculptures of deities in the temple are repainted and repaired.

Meenakshi Temple is nominated among the 30 attractions around the world which have been nominated to be on the list of New Seven Wonders of the World. It has become a national historic pride for India since then.
